dc:description Photographs collected by journalist Frank G. Carpenter (1855-1924) to illustrate publications on travel and geography. Many of the images dating between 1910 and 1924 (ca. 5,600 prints) were taken by Carpenter or his daughter, Frances and later captioned and assembled in albums. The remainder of the photographs were acquired by the Carpenters primarily from commercial sources.
