Books from the Library of Congress collections digitized for Meeting of Frontiers, a collaborative, bilingual digital library assembled by the Library of Congress and a variety of libraries and archival institutions in Russia and Alaska. Meeting of Frontiers explores the comparative history of the Russian expansion across Siberia to the Russian Far East and the Pacific, the American expansion westward, and the meeting of the Russian-America frontier in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. Russia and the United States were very different countries: Russia an autocracy ruled by the tsar, and America a democratic republic. The collection illuminates a number of themes, places and events, including: exploration; colonization; development; Alaska; Siberia, national identity; mutual perceptions; the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-5; th eKlondike gold rush.
